The National Gallery of Modern Art, India and Daegu Art Museum, Korea present the exhibition of 100 Years Anniversary of the March 1st Independence Movement: One Shiny Day at the National Gallery of Modern Art, India as a Korea-India exchange exhibition with the sponsorship of Korean Cultural Centre India.
The March 1st Independence Movement is Korea’s largest anti-Japanese movement broadly participated by folks from different walks of life regardless of their region, status and wealth. The exhibition looks into how the spirit of the March 1st Movement has been present in the lives of Koreans in what images and ways after an elapse of 100 years through artistic imagination of artists.
Keywords to understand the exhibition are ‘memory’, ‘record’ and ‘commemoration.’ But in the exhibition, there is no clear distinction of ‘memory’, ‘record’ and ‘commemoration.’ Rather, the attention is paid to how they are connected to serve as artistic drivers.
The exhibition title of One Shiny Day signifies that the historic incidence of March 1st 1919 was the nourishment and starting point to sustain the next 100 years. It is hoped that this exhibition could trigger the audience to look back on some of the historic moments through art.
